About Us - Race to Belém

We’re
starting this
race

The Race to Belém is being driven by a sense of urgency and our belief in the speed of the market.

Our goal is to mobilize others to join us and to make a difference.

We’re building a unique movement of private sector finance, global business and some of the world’s largest conservation NGOs – who will work with Brazilian States, Indigenous Peoples, local and traditional communities, farmers, as well as the Brazilian federal government.

tocantins state government

The State of Tocantins, located in central Brazil, is where the Amazon and Cerrado biomes meet, creating a rich biodiversity hotspot with vital rivers and unique ecosystems.

Part of the MATOPIBA region, a major agricultural frontier, the state balances farming growth with environmental protection.

The Environmental Services Law – approved in Jan 2023 (No 4111/23) – established an important framework for the states pioneering JREDD+ program with Silvania. The program has already reduced deforestation, though challenges remain in fully addressing illegal activities. Tocantins showcases the potential for sustainable development by combining conservation efforts with agricultural opportunities to protect biodiversity and combat climate change.
